Introduction

Securing sponsorship is a vital part of the Owls' fundraising.

The range of sporting activities that have become available to disabled people in the last ten to fifteen years has encouraged many to take up new challenges. This in turn is giving them a new lease of life and is enabling them not only to gain self-confidence but also a sense of purpose.

The Owls aim has always been to provide help and support to any disabled person who asks for assistance in their efforts to progress in their chosen sports, whether they have hope to achieve world-class status or just have the determination to overcome their own personal hurdles to gain success. Any of our members are capable of great success in the sporting world but even those who do not wish to become elite athletes still take immense pride and satifaction just participating in sport.

Owls members compete at events throughout the world, which included the 2000 Sydney Paralympics.

Although we are always available to our membbers when they are in need of support, the main obstacle to our work is the limited financial aid which we are able to give.

Our recent fund-raising events organised with great success have attracted a great deal of support from businesses and the general public. The local press have ensured widespread publicity for our activities. Our charity has gained a high profile within local and national level and we feel that we are in a good position to offer companies excellent sponsorship packages.

As we are a self-supporting charity fund-raising events are either taking place or being planned.

In the past we have organised It's a Knockout Family Fun Weekends, Soccer Six Challenges, Wheelchair Basketball Marathons, Fancy Dress Beer Walks, Bonfire & Firework Spectaculars, Bungee Jumps, Ejection Seat Challenges to name but a few.

Money is not always the main factor - donations in the form of vital equipment (link), such as wheelchairs are just as important. For instance a well known bus shelter sign promoter allowed us free advertising space for one of our athletes who participated in the London Marathon a few years ago.

The donation of office furniture, equipment (sports & office) and transport have been other ways in which people have helped.

The Owls have managed in the past to secure sponsorship deals with a computer software company that specialises in teaching aids for the disabled and people with learning dificulties. Also a wheelchair manufacturer sponsored our wheelchair basketball teams.

These have in turn received the backing of Sportsmatch, a government initiative, which aims to to match sponsors' contributions.

A local window manufacturer was equalled by Sportsmatch as was a bed manufacturer which supported another of our activities.

The aim of the Owls is one of encouraging existing businesses to extend their involvment in grass-roots levels of the sport.

Another local company, that operates buses also helped by emblazoning on one of their double deckers the Owls livery. The bus travelled around over a number of years to draw attention to the Owls.

If you or your company wish (or you know of someone or of some company) who would like to sponsor either our club, individual athletes, fund-raising events, provide an item of equipment or help in any way please don't hesitate in contacting us (link). We will be more than happy to provide you with whatever information you require.
